Tuition Fees - The Facts - 8th December 2010

From the Conservative Future National Site, by Ben Howlett I have today called for a closer examination of the facts about the Government’s proposals on tuition fees ahead of Thursday’s House of Commons vote. This comes as www.factsonfees.com is launched, a new website to separate the truth from the myths on tuition fees. The Government’s proposals will mean: ¦No student will pay anything from the day they arrive at university to the day they leave. ¦Graduates won’t pay a penny until they are earning £21,000. ¦Graduates earning over £21,000 will pay back £45 less every month compared to now. ¦The lowest earning 20 per cent of graduates will pay back less in total than they do at the moment. I have been struck by the level of misinformation about what the Government is proposing. Students won’t pay anything up-front and won’t pay a penny until they earn £21,000. And when they do start paying, they will pay back £45 less every month than they do now, while the least well off will pay back less in total than they currently do. Students deserve better than the irresponsible myth-making we have seen in recent weeks. Conservative Future will be helping make the facts clear in the days and months ahead.
